Will a mysterious disappearance bring two broken hearts together...or tear them apart?

THE WAY TO HER HEART by Amy Reece
YA Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Limitless Publishing
Release Date: March 29, 2016
— SYNOPSIS --
No amount of counseling can bring Josh Harris back to his old self.

After a tragedy that changed his life forever, eighteen-year-old Josh has lived in a year-long fog of medication and confusion. It’s all he can do to not think about his dad—a culinary genius who raised him in the kitchen. Thankfully, Josh inherited his golden palate and sixth sense for cooking, which is the only thing that makes sense anymore.

For a seventeen-year-old girl, life can’t get much worse…

Bernie Abeyta is a senior in high school and lives with her drug-addicted mother, but has managed to keep her grades up so she can get into college. With her father in prison and her mom’s sleazy boyfriend getting too close for comfort, Bernie turns to her best friend Gabby Rodriguez for help, but discovers Gabby has gone missing. Distressed over her friend’s sudden disappearance, Bernie resorts to living out of her car while she looks for answers and tries to avoid foster care.

Part love, part mystery, part cookbook—and all heart.

During economics class, Josh finds himself captivated by his new project partner, Bernie. As they grow closer, he insists Bernie move in with him and his mother. Furthermore, he offers to help look for Gabby.

Bernie refuses to believe Gabby ran away, and she’s determined to get to the bottom of the mystery—no matter how great the danger to herself.

Will Bernie’s gritty life be too much for Josh to handle? Or will he fight for The Way to Her Heart?

Josh
She cut her hair. Josh realized he was staring at the girl in the next row and pulled his gaze back to his notebook as the teacher droned on about supply and demand curves. I don’t care for short hair on girls. Yet he couldn’t keep his eyes off her. He didn’t even know her name. On Friday her hair had been long, the silky black tresses reaching below her shoulder blades. Today, he could see the back of her neck. He could see how long and slender it was and watched as she reached around to feel it, seeming surprised, perhaps still unused to the short cut. She pushed the long front layer behind her ear. The purple streak is kind of cute, though. He once again forced his gaze back to his notes, reminding himself that he had a girlfriend; a beautiful girlfriend with long blonde hair. Focus, Harris. Get your mind off the pretty girl with the short hair. She was pretty. He’d always thought so, even though he didn’t know her name. He’d heard it; wasn’t it something weird? Enough! Supply, demand. That’s all you need to think about.

“So, for the next few weeks you will be paired up with one of your classmates as we launch a new project designed to help you experience some of what it takes to create and stick to a household budget.” Mr. Griego picked up a stack of index cards from his desk. “I have created a scenario with careers and incomes for each couple. Some of you have children, and some don’t. Every few days you will get a new financial situation you have to deal with. Each week of this project will be the equivalent of one month for your budget. You will turn in a complete six month budget, along with a written report at the end of the project. Each couple will also give a five-minute oral presentation.” He started calling names and handing out index cards. There were groans and titters of laughter as the names were called because some of the couples were same-sex. “Josh Harris and Bernie Abeyta.” No one in the class said anything or laughed at the pairing. Josh wasn’t surprised; he had pretty much fallen off the radar over a year ago. He stood and walked to the front of the room to retrieve the index card.

“Who’s Bernie Abeyta?” he asked quietly. Great. I’m paired with a guy. Just what I needed.

The girl with the short, purple hair raised her hand. “Me.” She sounded bored.

“Okay. I’m, uh, I’m Josh.” He stood in front of her desk, awkwardly shifting from side to side.

“Yeah. I’m Bernie.” She glanced up quickly, meeting his gaze, then looked away.

“You have the last fifteen minutes of class to exchange contact information, phone numbers, email addresses, whatever you need to get in touch with your partner. Most of the project work will need to be on your own time as you will need to visit grocery stores and do some online research,” Mr. Griego said.

Josh sat down in the newly vacated desk in front of Bernie. “So.” He waved the index card. “One of us is a teacher and the other is an attorney. Which do you want to be?”

Bernie shrugged. “It doesn’t really matter to me. You choose.”

He looked at her, a half-smile on his face. Close-up he noticed that she had beautiful, smooth, light-brown skin and her eyes were so dark they looked black. She didn’t wear much makeup; she didn’t need to. “Fine. I’ll be the teacher. You can be the attorney.” She looked up quickly. “Is that okay?”

She shrugged again. “Sure. It doesn’t matter. Do we have kids?”

“Yeah, we have two: an eight-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son. So, I guess we should exchange phone numbers and email.” He scrawled his information on a page of his notebook and tore it out, handing it to her.

She took the page, staring at it blankly for a moment before tearing a piece of paper out of her own notebook. “Here’s my email.”

He looked at it. “What’s your cell number?”
“I don’t have one. Just the email.”

“Oh. Okay.” Josh had never heard of anyone his age who didn’t have a cell phone. “So, do you want to get together tonight to get started on this? We could meet at my house. Or yours. Whatever you want.”

“Yours. Here.” She pushed the paper back at him. “Write your address. I have to work until seven. I can be there around seven-thirty. Is that okay?” She didn’t meet his eyes.

“Uh, sure. That’s fine. Here.” He handed the paper back. “Do you need a ride or anything?”

“No.”

“Oh. Great. So, I’ll, uh, see you tonight. I guess.” He had never been so tongue-tied around a girl.

“Yeah.” She turned her attention back to her notebook, clearly dismissing him.

Josh returned to his seat, chagrined. I seem to have lost my touch. Then again, he hadn’t really been trying very hard for a long time. He used to be much better at this whole thing: friends, girls, talking. Now he simply didn’t have the energy anymore. It was October of his senior year and he was biding his time until he could graduate and move on with his life. She’s really pretty, though. He groaned inwardly as he packed his notebook and shouldered his backpack. He knew he had no business noticing how pretty his new partner was; he should be thinking about how gorgeous his girlfriend had looked in her cheerleading uniform that morning during the pep rally. She was beautiful, sweet, and had stuck by him through a seriously dark time in his life. He had really been phoning it in lately with Kayleigh. Jeez, he could do better. He merged with the flow of humanity in the hallway, determined to do right by her, starting tomorrow at lunch.

Then Came You--Heartwarming Romance #Free on #Kindleunlimited

My heart smiled while writing Then Came You. Five years old and orphaned, Maddie was pivotal in bringing her nanny Thyme Wilde and fancy-shmancy architect and heir to the Buchanan clothing empire Grayson Montgomery together.

Between Maddie's innocence, Thyme's protective nature and Grayson being completely out of his element, I loved watching the three of them come together in the name of love. I hope you enjoy their story too.

First came the job.
Next came Maddie.

Then Came You…

Thyme Wilde doesn’t make long-term decisions—until she falls in love with one…

Easily bored and quickly distracted, Thyme enjoys her freedom, so being a temp at her sister’s company is the perfect job. But when she takes a position as a nanny, she instantly falls in love with the five-year-old princess named Maddie—and just two months later, Maddie’s parents are killed in a plane crash, leaving Thyme in an unfamiliar role of responsibility.

Multi-millionaire architect Grayson Montgomery lives in the lap of luxury—but at a cost…

Being the sole heir of his family’s fashion empire and his father’s architectural firm, Grayson has never lacked for anything. But in return, he must stay subservient to the matriarch of his family—his grandmother—and date the heiress of their largest business partner. The only freedom Grayson has is his architectural designs, which are his true passion.

One day changes Grayson’s future forever…

A lawyer summons Grayson to Maine for the reading of the will of a woman he once knew. He doesn’t expect to be named the father of a five-year-old orphan. Then he meets his newly-discovered daughter—and her incredibly sexy nanny.

While acting as Maddie’s loyal nanny, Thyme develops feelings for her new employer that are more than professional. And after several passionate nights with Grayson, it’s clear the feeling is mutual.

When it’s made evident Grayson sees her as a convenient placeholder, Thyme must push aside her desires and put Maddie above herself—even if it means sacrificing her heart to do it.

COMPETING WITH THE STAR
by Krysten Lindsay Hager
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: March 22, 2016
Publisher: Limitless Publishing
– SYNOPSIS –
Hadley Daniels’s life seems perfect…

Before the beginning of sophomore year of high school, Hadley and her family move to a beautiful beach town, where she makes amazing new friends and lands the boyfriend of her dreams—Nick Jenkins. He’s the kind of guy every girl swoons over, and it isn’t long until Hadley discovers some are still swooning.

A famous ex-girlfriend makes matters more complicated…

After some time dating, Hadley and Nick form a deep bond. But insecurity sets in when Hadley discovers her boyfriend once had a huge crush on her friend—who just happens to be the beautiful former teen TV star, Simone Hendrickson.

The past is the past—or so they say…

Hadley confronts Nick, who confesses about his history with Simone. Though he claims to only have eyes for Hadley now, it’s hard to believe—especially when she’s blindsided with the news that Nick and Simone kissed after school.

Now Hadley must determine who is telling the truth. Love, betrayal, friendship…who needs soap opera drama when you’re busy competing with a star?

- EXCERPT -
Two days passed and Nick hadn’t called again. I couldn’t blame him. After all, I had pushed for him to be honest and then had bailed on him. I’m sure he was mad at me for telling him he could tell me the truth and then I punished him for it—and he would be right. I couldn’t handle the icky feelings, and instead of being a big girl and dealing with them, I came home from school and retreated into the world of books. A world where people were kidnapped, jewels were stolen, but nobody’s heart ever got broken because in my favorite series, The Raven Chronicles, Raven’s boyfriend, Fernando, was ever faithful and loyal and would never even look at another girl. He was the perfect book boyfriend. In other words, he was fictional and didn’t exist.

I saw I had a text from Simone. Oh great, maybe she was asking for my blessing to go out with Nick, or if I was still planning to go to Watson High School next year so she could make out with him in a different hallway from my locker.

Simone: Are you mad at me? Nick said you’re upset because you found out he used to like me.

Oh fabulous. He told her the whole gross story. Well, of course he did, seeing as how he was always over with her clique and he could tell the love of his life anything.

Writing Groups and Author Lingo-They Get Me #amwriting #Writechat

As a writer, I'm always looking for tips, ideas and inspiration for my books. One of my favorite places to gather these is at my local writer's group: the Maine Romance Writers. I've been a member for nine years and have played the role of silent lurker (that didn't last long), to secretary, then on to VP of communications and my favorite, retreat coordinator.

A writing group is a place where others understand that you have multiple voices in your head--and think that's normal. Where you can say, "I don't know how my book is going to end" or "I'm not sure who the killer is" and others nod in understanding. It's a place where we can talk about algorithms, yet not be proficient in math. When someone says she's a "pantser", I'm not tugging on my jeans and looking over my shoulder wondering if I'm going to be her next victim and praying I remembered to wear my good underwear. It's a place where NaNo is a word, and everyone knows their word count, and where tags are not attached to your clothing, but to dialogue. When asked about our WIP we're not "whipping" out our hands to do the Whip and Nae-Nae.

ARCs have nothing to do with your feet. There are no peas in your POD book and no cherry slushy in the dreaded Slush Pile. My friend who writes YA isn't excited about everything (that's yay), and Head Hopping doesn't mean you're schizophrenic, bipolar or have a multiple personalities. However, you may still have one of those mental illnesses. That's okay, we love all our writers.

Our speakers present workshops on craft, publishing and marketing. Other times we share our work and help each other through brainstorming sessions. Just being in a room with other writers is inspiring. No matter the topic of the meeting, I always leave feeling revved and pumped up, ready to dive back into my WIP.

I had the honor of speaking to the Maine Romance Writers workshop this past weekend, and even though I was the presenter, I still left primed and ready. The conversations during lunch, the animated discussions at the end of the afternoon, and hearing about the trials and tribulations of others was the kick in the pants I need to stop pantsting around with my WIP, cut some tags and send out some ARCs.

Tuesday's #WriteTip: Character #Playlist-It's in the #Music

3/15/2016

Picture
I know some authors who make soundtracks to listen to when they write. Others make soundtracks for each book. I love both ideas as well as making a playlist for my hero and heroine's iPod. The music someone listens to definitely shows their personality. However, being a lover of all genres (except rap...could never get into it), the music I listen to reflects my current mood. If I'm working out I like the fun top 40 tunes; when driving a long distance, country keeps me company; in a writing zone, some easy listening.

A character's playlist will vary depending on the day, their environment, their emotional state, just as ours will. In Sweet on You, Trent Kipson and Rayne Wilde are both fitness fanatics and listen to music while working out. Here's what I came up with for them.

Rayne's Playlist:                                                              Trent's Playlist:
All the Single Ladies-Beyonce`                                    Welcome to the Jungle- Guns 'N Roses
Shake it Up-Taylor Swift                                                Am I the Only One-Dierks Bentley
Burn -Ellie Goulding                                                      Toes in Sand -Zac Brown Band
Drunk in Love-Beyonce', JAY Z                                     Something to do with My Hands-Thomas Rhett
Marry Me- Jason Derulo                                                Parking Lot Party-Lee Brice
All of Me-John Legend                                                   Rockstar-Nickelback
Fight Song-Rachel Platten                                             Dream On- Aerosmith

What's your favorite music to listen to when you...(fill in the blank)?

Exit Wound-An Emotional #YAnovel

3/14/2016

Today I had the pleasure of sitting down with Bea Morrison, the heroine in Alexandra Moore's YA novel, Exit Wound.
Picture
Let's start with an easy question about food. What’s your favorite restaurant?
Any place that sells Chinese food that won’t make me reserve a bathroom stall for hours after digestion works fine for me. No particular favorite.

What would you do if you woke up and found an elephant in your room?
I’d wonder what the hell I did the night before to acquire an elephant in my room. Then I’d probably have a panic attack.

Ha ha ha. I would too! Have you ever played a sport? If so, which one and what position?
I was in color guard my freshman and sophomore year in high school…at least the high schools I went to before I ended up at Rosewood. Do spinning flags around on a football field count?

What is your greatest fear?
Losing everyone I’ve ever loved.

As a mother of three, this is a fear I can relate to as well. So tell me, what is the trait you most deplore in others?
Ignorance.

Which living person do you most admire?
On a good day, I’d say my brother.

On what occasion do you lie?
On any occasion in which I’d need to save my skin, or someone else’s.

I guess that makes sense. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
If it’s a word that is considered impolite, insulting or something that shouldn’t be coming out of a young woman’s mouth, you bet I overuse it.

Alexandra Moore is a twenty-something author of New Adult and Young Adult novels. Outside of writing, she is a Rheumatoid Arthritis Warrior, and is a huge advocate for young writers of all creeds and walks of life, as well as a big supporter of people with chronic illnesses of all kinds. Ellen Hopkins, author of Crank, Burned, and Impulse to name a few, often inspires her writing. Because of this, she has learned to write honestly about what hurts the most. When she isn’t emotionally invested in her work and writing the next big project, she is spending time drinking Starbucks, watching Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix, Reign, and Game of Thrones. She claims to be the Mother of Dragons—but will settle for Mother of Hedgies and Fictional Characters. She also enjoys spending her time with her best friend Cary, and her fiancé Kris.

Out of the Mouths of Babes #motherhood

Picture
My nine year-old son, aka "Little Guy"-LG for short, is a non-stop jumble of random questions and facts. He knows nothing about transitions and can hop from talking about Captain America to tornadoes to his touchdown at recess...all in one breath. Usually there are three or four questions imbedded in his long-winded run-on sentences as well. My standard response is, "Go ask Dad." If Dad isn't home it's, "Not sure, buddy." LG isn't really looking for answers anyway, he just likes to ask things and doesn't wait for a response.

Teenage Princess (14) and Sports Girl (12) are used to their little brother's randomness and typically ignore him. This morning, however, was harder for them to do. Welcome to just another typical breakfast conversation:

LG-Mom, if a tornado comes and you get sucked up do you die? If you have a best friend who is younger than you, do you have to have a baby first?
Mom-I've never been in a tornado before, so I'm not sure. People have children when they're all sorts of ages. I was 27 when I had your sister, my sister was--
LG-If you have babies when you're younger do they have to cut them out of you? Are they bloody and gross.
Mom-Some women have babies that way but it's not about their--
LG-Can girls have babies when they're 18?
Mom-Well, yes but it's better to--
LG-If you're only 18 do you have to have the baby cut out of your body because you're so young?
Mom-No. That's not how--
LG-How do 18 year olds have babies if they're not even married yet? Do the babies just start growing early and grow in your belly later for other people?
Mom-Um, no.
(Meanwhile the girls are giggling, anticipating my answers, while LG is in his own world)
LG-Who is Captain America's mom?
Mom-(thankful for the change of subject) I don't--
LG-Superman's mom blows up and then he has earth parents that aren't his real parents but Iron Man doesn't have any either. Wait. He had a dad. He's dead. Can I get new basketball sneakers today because I'm so hot and sexy?

Yes, my son refers to himself as hot and sexy all the time. Because he's 9 and very tiny, it's cute. If he's like this when he's older I'm going to have to ask him to move out.

NOBODY KNOWS by Rebecca Barber
✰✰ SYNOPSIS ✰✰
Gillian Dempsey must find a reason to go on…

Easier said than done after a rare virus robs her of both parents. Left alone and confused, the mourning nineteen-year-old flees to her three best friends, who receive her with open arms.

Her parents give her more than an inheritance—they give her a second chance at life…

When Gillian is left with some properties in her parents’ will, she assigns them to a real estate agent to manage. Joel Matthews takes the job, but he quickly becomes more than a business associate. After a string of fortunate coincidences, Gillian and Joel spend a passionate night together—after which Joel all but vanishes from her life.

But they still have unfinished business, and Gillian won’t allow him to slip away—especially with her heart.

Life is a roller coaster of tragedy and joy…

Gillian reels him in, and soon the two are married. Gillian’s heart expands even more when they receive the news of their first pregnancy. But after the baby is born, things aren’t the same. Joel becomes distant…resentful. And then the abuse begins. Darkness consumes their marriage—only to get worse.

While Gillian tries to hold her family together, it seems Joel is doing everything to tear them apart. But just one slip of his temper makes all the difference, because this time, there’s no turning back.

Maybe being abused can be endured, as long as Nobody Knows…until someone ends up dead.
