A vineyard grows the grapes--seems' obvious--but doesn't necessarily make the wine. Some do, some don't. A winery has a permit to squash those little pieces of fruit and turn them into what we love so much. Wine. The places I visited grew their own grapes (and had some shipped in, this is wintry New England, folks) and also made their own wine. So, technically, I suppose we visited wineries.
One of my favorites was a sweet blackberry wine. We were given a lovely suggestion to mix it with vodka and pour over ice. Doesn't that sound heavenly? All I need now is warm weather.
And in the midst of sampling, touring and asking questions, an idea for a new series centered around a New England winery came to life. I haven't decided if it will be based in New Hampshire (where I toured) or Maine. The wheels are spinning. First, I need a location. A fictitious town or winery.
I'd love to hear your name ideas. If I use your suggestion I will recognize you in the acknowledgements of the first book.
